Fabric-Based Business Challenges: How to Cut Yourself Some Slack

Do you own a fabric-based business and find that all your projects require the use of lots of fabric or yarn? Have you considered making things easier on yourself by cutting the time you spend searching for textile products locally? Are you tired of not finding the exact thing you need to complete your important tasks?

If your answer to these questions is yes, then you must cut yourself some slack. You need to find a more efficient way to obtain your yarn and fabric needs, without the hassle.

One of the things I discovered is that doing this chore, sitting down in one place, like in the comfort of my home or office, worked perfectly for me. I also found that I can do my browsing which will eventually form my decisions, at any time I wish, day or night.

If you have diverse fabric needs, you are probably doing (or planning to) at least one of these twelve fabric-based businesses:

  1. Run your own sewing and tailoring business.
  2. Sell custom-made creations.
  3. Make and sell textile-based art and crafts.
  4. Create custom-made clothing like bridal wear, costumes, and handcrafted fashion accessories.
  5. Make pull-on hats, caps, floppy hats, and other headpieces like babies’ and adult headbands.
  6. Make fabric bags to sell.
  7. Sew home furnishings like curtains, drapery, other window treatments, lamp shades, rag rugs, and throws.
  8. Produce soft toys and dolls.
  9. Crochet making, designer lace weaving, and other forms of knitting.
  10. Sew quilts, blankets, and table linen.
  11. Plan and decorate events.
  12. Commercial shop- front window designing.

And although there are many more textile-based creations too numerous to mention, it is certain that you get the idea.

So, if you run your own small or medium-scale fabric-based business and find that you need fabric frequently, it is best to save yourself hours of walking and frustrations by buying bulk orders of fabric, by-the-bolt or by-the-roll. You not only save on your order, for reasons of it being a large quantity, but you will also save on shipping costs. Shipping is always free, sometimes with orders of as little as fifty dollars.

In any textile-based business, it’s best to keep your stock room adequately filled with your fabric and yarn requirements.
